What started out as a fad that only appealed to rich outdoorspeople has since become much more accessible to all campers thanks to new models for budgets of all sizes. Tents alone don t attract lightning but that doesn t mean they re safe during a thunderstorm.

Your tent is not safe if lightning occurs. Your tent is designed to protect you from rain the sun and even heat. Pop up tents and campers are inherently unsafe in a lightning storm and should only be used as a shelter of last resort if a storm comes up too quickly to find a safer place to ride it out. Just a few years ago rooftop tents began popping up in the outdoor market but they were ridiculously expensive.
