It can be grown in low light environments although it thrives in sunlight. Luckily i have discovered some succulents that do well in low light environments. True to its name this low light succulent does resemble a braided tail as it cascades in an overlapping pattern from hanging pots or the edge of a balcony. The leaves of pearly dots are covered with white bumps on the surface thus earned the name.

As i wrote in a previous post succulents that do not get enough light tend to stretch out and lose their original shape. In addition these succulents are native to south africa and accustomed to growing under indirect sunlight. They do best with morning sun and full shade in the afternoon. Aloe vera is hardy outdoors in usda zone 9.

This sedum is good in low light environments too because etiolation is pretty impossible to detect in a vine. Named after the spanish word for donkey burro s tail is indigenous to southern mexico and honduras. Succulents prefer bright sunlight and this may be a deterrent at least for me in acquiring succulents if you have a low light situation. It also goes by lamb s tail and horse s tail.

Rhipsalis will do well as indoor plants or in those areas that receive low light. It s probably the easiest trailing succulent to grow which is what gives it so much adaptability. While most people think of cacti and succulents as desert plants that require bright and dry conditions rhipsalis do not thrive in direct sunlight and very dry soil.
